Do not consider gaming expansion in Vancouver until Minister Coleman meets responsibilities to charities and non-profits

Letter:
Dear Vancouver Mayor and City Council,

I am writing to urge you to support the BCACG’s initiative and refuse the Edgewater application to expand gambling in Vancouver until the provincial government agrees to abide by the 1999 legal agreement to give 1/3 of net gaming revenues to BC’s crucial charities and non-profits.

Gambling was expanded throughout BC with the support of charities who believed that gambling’s social ills would be more than superseded by the monies made available to the community service sector. When Minister Coleman betrayed charities and cut them out of the equation, the moral justification for gaming expansion evaporated.

Revenues to charities and non-profits means jobs and services in Vancouver.

I ask Vancouver City Council to stand up for the charities in my community.

Sincerely,
